Aegir Project Constantia Uitsig Ale House opens!

After lots of waiting and anticipation the latest addition to the Aegir Project family, The Ale House at Constantia Uitsig finally opens its doors.

The wait is finally over, some three years after Rory from Aegir Project had a vision to open a second tap room at Constantia Uitsig, The Ale House is finally open. And what a journey they have been on, battling with lawyers to finally get issued a liquor licence allowing them to open their doors.

However having been lucky enough to enjoy a few of Aegir’s highly rated beers at their soft launch on Friday, the wait appears to be well worthwhile. Aegir Project are well know for creating some of the finest beers South Africa has to offer, and this new venue is sure to allow them more room for experimentation and limited releases. When I visited there were three new beers to choose from and they have installed not one, but two cask ale taps.

The venue is absolutely stunning, nestled at the foothills of the mountains, I could see myself sitting outside relaxing with a few beers watching the sun set over the mountain and taking in the beauty of the surrounding nature.

Venues like this are what makes craft beer in South Africa special for me. They show us that we have something unique to offer and make me so excited for the future of craft here. Pioneers like Rory are doing so much to push the industry forward. I had a quick chat with him about how it felt to finally be open and his views for the future:

I’m beyond excited to open The Ale House. It’s the perfect platform for us to really push our creative limits with new experimental and once off beers.

Constantia Uitsig is fast becoming one of those must visit venues that offers something for everything, from fantastic food to a bike track for kids (both big and small!) Now with The Ale House open the venue is complete and well worth a visit, plan to spend the best part of the day there!

I think it’s fantastic that Rory’s gamble to pull back from distribution has paid off. Breweries such as these are being supported to the extent that a second venue is now possible. The Ale House is open 12 – 8pm every day and I hope that people will continue to support these venues that are driving the craft beer scene in the right direction in South Africa.
